Each year, the best wine is selected with the title "Champion", as well as "Category Winners" and "Best Collection".

The Wine Salon - National Wine Competition of the Czech Republic is the final competition of the National Wine Competition system. Each year, the best wine is selected with the title of 'Champion', as well as 'Category Winners' and 'Best Collection'. The 100 best wines of the competition are awarded the gold medal of the Wine Salon of the Czech Republic. The competition itself is followed by a year-round public wine tasting Salon - an exposition of the best hundred wines, located in the cellars of the State Chateau in Valtice.

Evaluation and selection system

Wines entered into the Wine Salon must first pass through the system of regional nomination competitions of the National Wine Competition system.n, guaranteed by the Union of Winegrowers of the Czech Republic (in the Morava wine region, four competitions for the Znojmo, Mikulov, Velka-Pavlovice and Slovenská sub-regions; there is also one competition for the Bohemia wine region). Only on the basis of the nomination can the winemaker enter his wine for evaluation in the final competition - the Wine Salon - the national wine competition of the Czech Republic; where the evaluation is two-round. First, an expert jury selects the best 400 wines and from those in the final round the best 100 wines, which are awarded the gold medal of the Salon of Wines of the Czech Republic. The other wines in the final two hundred will receive the Silver Medal of the Salon of Wines of the Czech Republic on condition of obtaining a score of at least 84 points in the final evaluation. At the same time, the title "Champion", "Category Winners" and "Best Collection" is awarded. The winemakers have the right to mark the bottle of wine so awarded with a self-adhesive stamp with the medal "Salon of Wines of the Czech Republic", which is protected by the Industrial Property Office of the Czech Republic.

Only wines made from grapes grown in the Czech Republic can be included, the lot entered in a given category must meet the minimum quantitative criteria set by the Wine Salon statutes. An important and essential attribute is the requirement for prior bottling of the entire lot of wine entered and sampling of the wine at theThe NVC's designated employee has the right to select any 6 bottles from the lot entered.

The evaluation is carried out on a 100-point system according to international standards. In order to ensure that the evaluation of the wines is carried out to a high professional standard, tasters are selected on the basis of their knowledge, experience and ability to make a perfect sensory evaluation and discrimination of the wine. The nominated tasters are wine technologists, sommeliers, wine merchants, wine journalists and State Agricultural and Food Inspectorate had to undergo tasting training and successfully pass tasting tests according to the standard of international standards ČSN ISO 8586-2. The National Wine Centre is also the only organisation in the country that systematically trains and evaluates tasters.
