The trail of Pinot Blanc goes for around 40 kilometres, beginning and ending in Uherské Hradiště. From the square of Mariánské náměstí you take the bank of the River Morava, where the backbone of the wine highway of the Moravian wine trail both begins and terminates. This will get you to Staré Město, where you can explore the vineyards of the Agricultural College. There is a path which also leads through the vineyards on the route to Zlechov. Following this it ascends via a countryside housing development to Tupesy where you can interrupt the journey with a short sojourn at the ceramics museum.
A walk through this singular exhibition is definitely worth while. Downhill on the 3rd class road to venerable Velehrad crowned with a view over the vast monastery with its Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and Saint Cyril and Saint Methodeus, a visit to which you can combine with a wander around the nearby outdoor archaeological museum. After climbing above the village of Modrá on the Moravian wine trail, you will behold in front of you the forested part of the Chřiby hills, then turn off in the direction of Jalubí. The Pinot Blanc trail continues along the “Foal Slopes” (hříběcí hory) where the uphill sections alternate with wonderful downhill runs. Through Traplice it goes up to the northernmost vineyard track called Paňháj and then descends to Kudlovice. Should you desire a pause, go into the cellar lane and have a go at chatting to one of the several winemakers thereabouts, you will certainly find here plenty of points of interest and possibly even get to taste a sample of Pinot Blanc. The next stop – Babice – is only a stone’s throw away, even if you have to go up a light incline yet again. After returning to Uherské Hradiště, five kilometres distant, there are two possibilities on offer. The better alternative to the highly frequented highway is the cycle trail along the Baťa canal.
And should the hills of Podchřibí have drained your desire for cycling, you can even change your mode of transport. On the quay of the Baťa canal you can always load your bicycle onto a boat which will take you back to the capital of the Slovácko wine sub-region.
