The 56th edition of the popular Valtice Wine Market, which is considered the Wimbledon of wine exhibitions in the Czech Republic, will take place in the wine capital Valtice on 5 and 6 May. With a tradition and history of more than a hundred and sixty years, they are also the oldest national wine competitionn the Czech Republic with international participation and the public and wine lovers have a unique opportunity to taste hundreds of top wines. However, this year's edition will have one more big theme. Visitors and wine lovers can help save Moravian and Czech winegrowers and vineyards, and not only them, with their support in the petition campaign against the introduction of a senseless excise duty. The event is organised by the Valtice Wine Market in cooperation with the Secondary Wine School in Valtice.
The modern Valtice Wine Market is traditionally held in the representative premises, the renovated riding hall and the Šstables of the State Chateau in Valtice, which provide an unforgettable backdrop and atmosphere. They start on Friday morning with the opening ceremony, for which you can buy a special ticket and during whichmedals, diplomas and trophies are awarded to the winemakers for the results of their masterful work. In the afternoon, the Spanish Riding Hall opens its doors to the general public, allowing wine lovers to enjoy over 700 exhibitions andsamples from about 100 winemakers from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, but also from overseas wine-producing countries and winemakers from the southern hemisphere, which were evaluated by professional tasters. There is also an exciting auction of vintage wines, the proceeds of which are donated to charity. Saturday's programme is then reserved entirely for wine-loving visitors.
Over 700 samples from around 100 winemakers
"The Valtice Wine Market is a real wine festival, attracting almost 6,000 visitors every year. They taste high quality wines from all over our country, but also from abroad, todulcimer music and there is a great atmosphere and a generally good mood everywhere. But there is also a charitable side to it. Once again there will be an auction of archive champions and the proceeds will go to the children's cardiac centre in Motol, Prague. This is to emphasize that winemakers and wine lovers alike are true heartthrobs. Wine has been part of our culture and healthy lifestyle for centuries, it will continue to be so and we will not let anyone take it away from us," said one of the organizers David Št'astný and added: "so everyone is 5. On May 5 and 6, you are cordially invited to join us here in Valtice, because this festival is definitely worth a visit. In addition, please come and support us in the fight against the destruction of the domestic wine and viticulture industry. In its history, the Valtice wine market has only been interrupted by two world wars. The introduction of a nonsensical excise duty on wine, which logically no wine-growing country in Europe has, could seriously jeopardise the continuation of the Valtice markets. There is a real risk that the Czech Republic will disappear from the map of European wine-producing countries. That is why we are going on strike and there will already be a petition at the Valtice wine markets against the introduction of the excise duty and against the liquidation of Moravian winegrowers. We do not want to stand by and watch someone destroy what we have built for ourselves and our children over decades. We look forward to seeing you and thank you for your support!"
Refreshments and an accompanying cultural programme will be provided throughout the event. Admission is 100 CZK (80 CZK glass) and will be on sale only on the day of the event. You can also buy a catalogue (50 CZK) and coupons for wine consumption. The prices of individual wines vary according to the awards. All payments at the event are possible only in cash, in Czech crowns.
Entrance fee is 100 CZK.
