On the edge of the village of Havraníky, near the impressive flow of the river Dyje, is our winery. The river Dyje was already famous in the period before the Celts. The people of that time named it with the Indo-European word "dheu" or "flowing". For the next hundreds or perhaps thousands of years, it retained its reputation as a river that divided but also united peoples. Whether we call it the Thaya or the Thaya today, we are paying tribute not only to this life-giving river, but also to hundreds of years of human togetherness and the uniqueness of our wine.
Establishment
For thousands of years, the river Thaya has maintained its reputation as a dividing river, but also uniting nations. Whether we call it today Dyje or Thaya, we are paying tribute not only to this to the river itself, but also to hundreds of years of human community - and a great wine that crosses borders. Meet the Thaya Winery, a new winery and gastronomic jewel of the Znojmo region. It might seem that Thaya is an emerging winery, but the reality is different. Although the modern premises on the outskirts of Havraníky was inaugurated in the summer 2022, Thaya was created by transforming the Trávníček winery and Kořínek. The name is changing, but the philosophy and approach remain. In the words of Josef Trávníček, the restaurant's owner, winery and hotel, one of the goals was to was to create a place where all guests could be invited, taste wines, experience great gastronomy and relax in a stylish hotel.
As the name reveals, the newly opened wine area with its breathtaking interior and exterior is located near the river Dyje. It blends perfectly with the magical landscape Podyjí National Park and at the same time combines the concept of a super-modern operation with a hotel and restaurant. In addition to the name of the winery, the life-giving river Dyje is reminiscent of the winery's name, the undulating roofs of the halls and the facilities for tourists who can stay in the apartments reminiscent of a hobbit village. The design of the entire complex was created by the architect Jakub Cigler. The complex is divided into two parts into a working yard for the winery and an area for relaxation and wine tourism. Both of these yards are divided by the building of the former granary, on the roof of which an observation deck has been created. You cannot see the river Dyje from here, but you have a perfect view of the Pálava, and, in good weather, the peaks of the Alps. Of course the most beautiful view is with a glass of wine in your hand. Production of the Thaya winery is 200,000 bottles a year. They farm around 105 hectares of their own vineyards, The brand is characterised by its National Greetings collection from the Podyjí National Park, Thaya, light, fresh wines with fruity notes, or the time-honoured Apri collection. The restaurant is also named the same, using local ingredients: Chef Ondřej Lacina tempts guests with venison from local forests, meat from Czech farms, freshwater fish, all seasoned with herbs grown in on the premises.
