About winemaker

AMPELOS, STANICE VINAŘSKÁ ZNOJMO, s.r.o. is the oldest breeding station in the Czech Republic and one of the oldest in the world. It was founded in 1985. AMPELOS in Vrbovec continues breeding even today. It is engaged in the breeding of new grape varieties that would be early and give grapes with high sugar content. AMPELOS is carrying out maintenance breeding of 30 grape varieties on its land. There is also a national vine gene pool.

Basic characteristics of wine

Sauvignon belongs among the most popular three white wines together with the Chardonnay and Riesling varieties. It is assumed that it comes from the French region of Bordeaux or from the Loire region. The most typical Sauvignons can be found in the Znojmo or Mikulov region.
