From Sunday 19 to Tuesday 21 March, the world's largest wine fair ProWein 2023 took place in Düsseldorf, Germany. After a few years' hiatus, it was also in the presence of our winemakers and especially their wines, which were truly unmissable thanks to the exceptional stand. Participation in the fair was organized by the National Wine Centre and financially supported by the Wine Fund.
Although the quality of Moravian and Czech wines is indisputable, it is virtually impossible to impress at the world's largest wine fair among 6000 exhibitors with these alone. And so the stand itself, designed by the well-known architectural firm Chybik + Kristof Architects & Urban Designers, which is also behind the award-winning new building of the Lahofer winery in Dobšice in the Znojmo region, was added to support their presentation.
"Our stand was located in the hall together with our German and Swiss colleagues and deservedly took theattention not only of the visitors but also of the co-exhibitors, passers-by did not hesitate to stop, the stand was thoroughly inspected and take pictures - the slogan "Wine of Czech Republic" is circulating all over the world," commented Dagmar Fialová with a smile., marketing director of the National Wine Centre, who organized the national exposition on the spot and added: "The aim of this year's exposition was to put ourselves on the map of the wine world, to show that we have exceptional wines and winemakers worth discovering, and I think we succeeded. We were also pleased with the cooperation of winemakers who showed that they can pull together and did not hesitate to present not only their own wine but also that of their colleagues."
16 wineries from the Czech Republic
The Czech colours were represented at Prowein by 16 wineries, including winners and finalists of important competitions (Winery of the Year, Winemaker of the Year, National Wine Competition of the Czech Republic, etc.) and successful exporters, because export promotion was also the aim of our exposition. Moravian wines were tasted with interest by traders from Belgium, Denmark, Poland, Sweden, Canada, England, the United States, China, Japan and other often exotic destinations. Every day, during a special programme, our wines were presented by the national sommelier Klára Kollárová. Martin Chlad, President of the Union of Winemakers of the Czech Republic, was also present.
"Each day we opened five interesting older vintages that showed the tasters that our wines have the potential to age. The 2015 Riesling had everyone who tasted it in tears. This is the only way to convince the experts of the quality of our wines," she said, explaining the master class, a practical part of thest of the presentation of Moravian and Czech wines in Düsseldorf, national sommelier Klára Kollárová.
6,000 exhibitors from 61 countries

Represented were the world's wine and spirits market leaders, importers and exporters, trade representatives, wine businesses, associations and other industry stakeholders. In addition, there were more than 500 master classes, courses and other thematic events. Despite warnings of strikes on public transport, 49,000 trade visitors came to the fair, from 141 countries. ProWein is the only international trade fair that covers the entire world market, and the international composition of visitors corresponds to this. Traditionally, Italy has the largest representation, followed by France, Germany and Spain. The next edition of ProWein in Düsseldorf is scheduled for 10-12 March 2024.

Moravian and Czech wines are characterized by their interesting spectrum of aromas, richextractive substances and the harmonious combination of full-bodied flavours with the fresh acidity of white wines. Recently, red wines have also been gaining ground, thanks to modern technological processing.reds are full-bodied and expressive, yet soft and velvety, with a pleasant fruity aroma. Rosé wines are also on trend, beautiful not only for their colour but also for their exceptional youthful character.
